Your Team 4 Better Schools

The Hamilton County Democratic Party has endorsed four outstanding individuals for the Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education. They are supported in their joint campaign by the Committee to Elect a New School Board which has a solid record of past success. The Committee is a coalition of parents, teachers and organizations representing thousands of working families in Greater Cincinnati.

The four individual candidates, incumbent Catherine Ingram, Lisa Schare, Joyce Hooks and Ceair Baggett were selected out of eleven prospective nominees, including two incumbents and other current candidates who were examined and rejected by the Cincinnati Democratic Committee.

The Team concept is lodged in the belief that unlike the current board who have spent over $50,000 on professional services of a mediator who endeavors to teach them how to get along…this team will need no such assistance or cost the taxpayers dollars that should be in the classroom assuring that our children receive the very best education possible.

The four candidates are coordinating as a Team of candidates and once elected--intend to serve in a spirit of cooperation and civility.

The Endorsed Team Members

Lisa Schare is someone you may already know from her work as President of the Ohio Catholic Democrats who experienced great success in influencing the Presidential election in Hamilton County last year. She is an award winning educator with two master’s degrees and she is an OEA member from the Princeton School District. Lisa is an accomplished art educator and has a personal commitment to the Cincinnati Public Schools in the form of her daughter who has just begun her school year at Walnut Hills High School.

Joyce Hooks has had a rewarding and lifelong association with the Cincinnati Public Schools as a student, a mother and now grandmother of successful attendees of our school system.

Joyce worked her way up from a clerical position and serves as a prime example of hard work and talent being rewarded as she went on to become recognized as a master teacher. She was a member of the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers where she served as a teacher, a field representative of her union, and eventually as trained mediator for children and their families. She understands the problems of our communities and how to ensure that families and their children can reach the pinnacle of success in our system.

Catherine Ingram needs no introduction. She is the longest serving member of the current Board of Education and as the Finance Chair she not only knows the details and crevices of the system, she serves as the institutional memory of this board and as a mentor for our new energetic endorsed Team of candidates. She has stood tall when it mattered on this board and was endorsed wholeheartedly by the Democratic Party for reelection in 2009.

Ceair Baggett is without doubt a remarkable and dynamic young man. He is determined to achieve his goal of being the youngest candidate ever elected to a major public office in regional history. He is a prime example of exactly the type of graduate we like to see from our public schools. He is a graduate of the newly redesigned Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School which has a corporate sponsorship with Cincinnati Bell. He was awarded a scholarship to Xavier University where he just completed his B.A. and he will be working on his Masters in Education this fall at U.C. He brings an energy, enthusiasm, tech savvy youthful perspective to our team that can benefit all of our candidates.
